USCCB Response to HHS Final Rules on Preventative Services

By Bob Laird

Congratulations to Anthony Picarello, Mike Moses, Richard Doerflinger, and the rest of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) staff that put together the well-documented, well-articulated, and well-rationalized statement as to why the HHS Final Rules on Preventative Services "should be recinded in its entirety."

It is rare to see stronger language come from the USCCB. There is nothing complementary to the HHS mandate in this document.

Everyone should take the time to read it slowly. It contain much of the foundational rationale as to why the Catholic Church is opposed to the federal government mandating abortion, contraception and sterilization services as part of health care and why it is in favor of exempting anyone with religious or moral objections from participating in such actions.
