Media Accuses the Pope of Attacking Capitalism in 2013 World Peace Day Message

By Noreen Daly

Did Pope Benedict really attack Capitalism in his 2013 World Peace Day Message?

As Deacon Keith Fournier reports in his January 4th article "The answer is No! He spoke the truth. He issued a caution, reaffirmed the truth about human freedom and insisted upon the primacy of the person, the family and the true common good."

This is the quote that the media and media headlines took out of context: "a selfish and individualistic mindset which also finds expression in an unregulated financial capitalism."

The 2013 World Peace Day message titled "Blessed are the Peacemakers" can be read in its entirety here

It is a beautifully written and inspiring exposition of Catholic Social Teaching which the Holy Father, Pope Benedict, wrote for us all and I recommend that each and everyone of us take the time to read through it and reflect on its message.
