Susan G. Komen and Planned Parenthood - A Connection That Cannot Be Ignored

What Pro-Lifers Don't See

By Bob Laird

The more Planned Parenthood goes public, the more it unveils what lies behind its fa├žade of warm community health centers"- a systematic program of deceit and deception. The latest fumbling of the leading abortion-provider in the world falls into two categories: its intrinsic link to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation (SGK), and its pretext to perform mammograms as a means of breast-cancer prevention.

As the local advertising begins to more forward on the SGK activities for the summer leading up to the "race" in October at various locations around the country, it is astounding that there is silence on this issue from many of the larger pro-life organizations. Let's look at the facts.

Between 2003 and 2009, SGK gave $3.3 million to Planned Parenthood and in FY 2009 provided $731,303. SGK sent the money to Planned Parenthood; not vice versa. Additionally, SGK openly admits this relationship and even posted a statement on its website touting this connection. The statement cites a Catholic ethicist, Ronald P. Hamel, Ph.D., as indicating that there is nothing opposed to Catholic moral teaching in this relationship between the two organizations. Dr. Hamel is the Senior Director of Ethics for the Catholic Health Association (CHA) of the United States. This is the same CHA which sided with President Obama and approved ObamaCare.

More recently, the connection came to light over mammogram testing. Why would SGK, an organization to stamp out breast cancer, provide money to Planned Parenthood? The expectation would seem to be to provide free and low cost breast cancer prevention, i.e., mammogram testing, at Planned Parenthood facilities.

Yet, an undercover investigation
revealed that most Planned Parenthood facilities around the country do not do mammogram testing. This is additionally significant because Planned Parenthood's President, Cecile Richards, cited that the federal government's defunding would shut down their mammogram program.

It is also important to understand that the SGK does not recognize the well-known scientific link between abortion and breast cancer. This is an "elephant in the room" situation. No one will acknowledge the presence of the number one preventative measure of breast cancer - the incidence of an abortion. The Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer does, and merits our attention and resources.

What conclusions can we draw from this discussion?
1. Supporting the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation by participating in and/or funding its events directly supports Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion-provider in the world.
2. Stop SGK and support The Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer as a worthwhile organization to provide funds for breast cancer research.
